Using the landscapes immediately surrounding her Sheboygan, Wisconsin home as her source of imagery for the past seventeen years, this artist creates an image that requires contemplation over immediate recognition of a time or place.
Painting primarily in oil and pastel, the broad shapes of color along with a brighter palette of highly contrasting hues, define her unique style and a personal form of expression in what is a traditional art form.
Sometimes using paint swatches from household paint stores to make color decisions before touching the canvas allows her the flexibility to make changes on her paintings without bogging down the clarity of the color.
She noted, "I spend more of my creative time thinking about composition just in terms of color balance, which I think is rather unique for a landscape artist."
Presnell-Weidner is an Associate Professor of Art at Lakeland College in Sheboygan. Her work can be found in numerous galleries in both Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as in permanent collections located in Shanghai, China, Africa, Japan and the United States.
