The Monroe Arts Center is a non-profit organization established in 1974 to preserve The First Methodist Church buildings as historic landmarks housing a center dedicated to serving the arts and the local community.

The Gothic Revival-style church and the Queen Anne-style residence were designed by Milwaukee architect E. Townsend Mix in 1869, and were placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in Washington, D.C., on February 25, 1975.

Through a community fundraising effort led by Margaret Gunderson Stiles, the site was purchased by the Monroe Arts Center in 1976, and now serves as the cultural arts center for Monroe, Green County and the surrounding area.

Our famous Rose Window serves as a reminder of our rich heritage and is an inspiration for artistic expression today.
